Close forms completely after they reached a final status: do not allow users to go back and change the status to "In Progress" or anything similar to edit after a form has reached a certain status.
Only allow the status to be reverted by certain roles defined by the organisation. Make this a permission to be given to only certain roles.

Thank you Angelika! Yes, we are aware you can make the status read only. That is not the problem. The problem we are trying to fix is to block the users to change the status of the form back to an edit status and make more changes. Because users that were allowed to change the status to an 'edit' status, are still allowed to change it after the form reached its completion and is in read only mode.
e.g. In Progress (edit status) and Complete (read-only status). Any role that can change the status back to In Progress, is able to 'bypass' the completed status, hence edit the form after it reached completion.
This is quite important in terms of the quality of the records, and whilst there is an audit trail, by the time the user has edited the form, the harm is done.
You can change the status settings so once a from gets signed off its read-only and it can not be edited. I recommend contacting support they can run you thru it.
