An additional tier so that parent line items can have multiple child line items. The ability to then have the parent line item status automatically update once all child items are signed off would be desirable.

Here's the work around for the second part to "daisy chain" status
Create a series of process tasks
For each process tasks, use the work flow layout and complete the fields (classic view)
Open the attached form, fill it in, change the status to complete
